This scholarship, started by Terence Mulvey, is in memory of Sergeant James O’Neill 75 who passed away in 2016. The scholarship was renamed to the Sergeant James O’Neill and Detective Terence Mulvey Scholarship by Kathy O’Neill following Terence Mulvey’s ascent to Heaven in 2021.
James J. O’Neill and Terence P. Mulvey both lived in the Bronx and had special ties to Cardinal Hayes High School. Mr. O’Neill attended Cardinal Hayes High School, graduating in 1975. Mr. Mulvey was Assistant Principal at Cardinal Hayes High School from 2013 to 2021. Mr. O’Neill and Mr. Mulvey were life-long friends, both serving the City of New York with distinguished careers in the New York City Police Department.
Mr. O’Neill was the son of the late James A. O’Neill and Eileen O’Neill-Feeney. Jimmy is survived by his wife Kathy and his son James. Jimmy also leaves behind four sisters including Maureen (Walter) Watson, Kathy Weyhrauch, Patty (Mike) McDonald, and Lee (Ralph) Geosits. Seven nieces and nephews including Kristen and Tom Skehill, Lori (Matt).
Mr. Mulvey was the son of the late Arthur Mulvey and Theresa Mulvey. Terence is survived by his wife Erin, his daughter, Caoilfhionn, and son, Ian. In addition to his children, Terence was the adored Uncle T to his many nieces and nephews: Danny (Tracy), Megan, Colleen, Alicia, Daniel, Samantha, Michael, Kameren, Jasmine, Emma, Molly, Colbie, Aileen, Adam, Brendan, Sophia, Michaela and Katie. Terence was also a wonderful brother to his six siblings: Monica (Hugh), Mark (Janice), James (Jenny), Danny (Maureen), Claire (Bob) and Mary (Kevin), a loving son-in-law to Lori and the late Cliff McKenzie and brother-in-law to Sabra and the late Joe McKenzie-Hamilton
