A New Opportunity to Support Student Scholarships

What if there were a new opportunity that allows eligible taxpayers to direct up to $1,700 ($3,400 for married couples filing jointly) toward student scholarships at Franklin Classical School instead of sending those dollars to the federal government?

Through the brand new Education Freedom Tax Credit, beginning in January 2027, eligible taxpayers may be able to redirect a portion of their federal tax liability to fund scholarships for current and future Franklin Classical School students through our scholarship partner, ACE Scholarships.

Rather than simply making an additional charitable gift, eligible participants may have the opportunity to direct dollars they already owe in federal taxes toward scholarships that support students and families at Franklin Classical School.

Who Can Participate?

Anyone who expects to owe federal income taxes and wants those dollars to help students instead of going to the federal government. This includes: parents, grandparents, alumni, friends of Franklin Classical School, business owners, community supporters. You do not even need to live in Tennessee to participate. Eligible taxpayers from across the country may direct funds through ACE Scholarships to support the Franklin Classical School Scholarship Fund.

Scholarships May Be Available to More Families Than Ever Before

One of the most exciting aspects of the Education Freedom Tax Credit is the potential to expand scholarship access for families seeking a Franklin Classical education. ACE Scholarships has indicated that families earning up to 300% of the Area Median Income may qualify for scholarship assistance. As a result, many working and middle-income families who have not traditionally qualified for need-based aid may be eligible for support. This expanded eligibility has the potential to make a Franklin Classical education more accessible for current and future students.

How Does It Work?

• Visit the ACE Scholarships enrollment page for Franklin Classical School.
• Select the amount you would like to contribute to the Franklin Classical School Scholarship Fund through ACE Scholarships, beginning in January 2027.
• ACE Scholarships will provide the documentation needed to claim the applicable Education Freedom Tax Credit when filing your federal income tax return.
• The tax credit reduces your federal income tax liability dollar-for-dollar, subject to program requirements and limits.

A Real-World Example: A married couple filing jointly enrolls in January 2027 and contributes $100 per month to the Franklin Classical School Scholarship Fund through ACE Scholarships. By December 2027, they have contributed $1,200. When they file their federal income tax return during the 2028 tax season, they may be eligible to claim a $1,200 Education Freedom Tax Credit, reducing their federal income tax liability by that same amount, subject to applicable program requirements and limits. If the credit exceeds their federal tax liability for the year, the unused portion may be carried forward for up to five years.

Every dollar directed through this program expands scholarship opportunities for students and families seeking a Franklin Classical education. The more individuals who participate, the larger the scholarship fund becomes and the greater our ability to help families access a Christ-centered, classical education.
