From Sherlock Holmes through the stylistic films noir to contemporary thrillers, we are perennially fascinated by murder, deception, and all manner of havoc, both on the page and on the screen. Dr. Galgan will talk about the ways in which these stories are told and how they draw us into a web of wrongdoing that entertains and amuses us even as it provides a window into the morals and concerns of the society in which the tales were produced.
