Josh Wharton ’97- Courage
In 2009, Patagonia ambassador and mountain climber Josh Wharton sustained a 25-foot fall, breaking his arms and back. His arduous recovery, resiliency, and courageous return to the sport he is passionate about exemplify Gould’s core values. Most recently, Josh and his climbing partner Vince Anderson completed their multi-year project on Jirishanca, a rarely summited 20,100-foot peak in Peru’s Cordillera Huayhuash—photo by Drew Smith.

Make Your Mark at Gould… Giving Tuesday 2023!
Has Gould Academy given you the skills and knowledge to Make Your Mark in the world? Join us for two weeks as we celebrate the core values of a Gould education and the way that our alumni, faculty, and students make their mark on campus and beyond.
Goal: Raise $150,000 from 425 donors by November 28th, 2023
Impact: Your support is how we are able to offer an exceptional experience for our students, year after year.
Timeline: Kick-off for Giving Tuesday is November 14th, and closes on Tuesday, November 28th.
Why: A contribution to the Gould Fund supports the programs, traditions, and experiences that build the core values of a Gould Education: Curiosity, Kindness, Creativity, and Courage.

Every Gift Counts!: Everyone who donates to Gould’s Giving Tuesday campaign, no matter what the amount, will be entered into a drawing to win a personalized 7” X 14” inch paver to be placed in Gould’s New Alumni Courtyard outside of Bingham Hall ($500 value)
$500 Donation: All donors who contribute $500 for these two weeks will receive a 14” by 14” personalized pavers to be placed in Gould’s new Alumni Courtyard outside of Bingham Hall ($750 value)
$750 Donation: All donors who contribute $750 for these two weeks will receive a 14” by 21” personalized pavers to be placed in Gould’s new Alumni Courtyard outside of Bingham Hall ($1000 value)
Alumni Contests:
Highest participation: The Alumni class with the highest number of donors will win a personalized paver with their class year on it!
Most money raised: The Alumni class that raises the most money will win a personalized paver with their class year on it!
Giving Day Prizes:
Current Student Giving Day: Any current student who donates any amount on Wednesday, November 15th will be entered into a drawing to win prizes. The grand prize is a personalized 7” X 14” inch paver to be placed in Gould’s New Alumni Courtyard outside of Bingham Hall ($500 value).
In addition, the class with the highest percentage of student participants will win an ice cream social for the class!
Employee Giving Day: Any employee who donates any amount on Thursday, November 16th will be entered into a drawing to win prizes. The grand prize is a personalized 7” x 14” inch paver to be placed in Gould’s New Alumni Courtyard outside of Bingham Hall ($500 value)
Current Family Giving Day: Any current students’ family member who donates any amount on Friday, November 17th will be entered into a drawing to win prizes. The grand prize is a personalized 7” X 14” inch paver to be placed in Gould’s New Alumni Courtyard outside of Bingham Hall ($500 value)

Pam Perkins ’61- Creativity
Pam Perkins is the definition of creativity. Whether recreating herself or sharing her unique vision through her camera lens. When Pam retired from Stanford in 2003 after 35 years as a fundraiser, she didn’t let societal norms box her in. Instead, she became a long-distance cyclist, a world traveler exploring 81 countries, and an award-winning photographer.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING FROM GOULD ACADEMY!
Dr. Lauren Jacobs ’03 - Life of Purpose
After discovering that some of her middle school students in a small rural Maine community had never paddled canoes, Outdoor Leadership Educator Dr. Lauren Jacobs dedicated herself to creating access to the natural world for everyone. Now a lecturer and program director at The University of Maine, she prepares other educators for that work, carrying out her personal mission on a larger scale.

Desiree Plata ’01- Curiosity
Desiree Plata has been curious about science from a very young age. As an eight-year-old, she questioned what common environmental factors contributed to illness in her family’s community. Today, as a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), her lab’s mission is to change how materials are created to ensure that harmful industrial waste becomes a thing of the past.

Adam Leff P’15, ’17 -Kindness
Every Sunday during the school year, French teacher Adam Leff gives his own time to bring Gould students to Lewiston to mentor and provide services for the refugee population in Maine. The opportunity for personal growth and service learning experience he provides for Gould students is remarkable. He is the embodiment of Kindness and doing for others.
