In memory of Bob Olcott ’44 and John McClintock ’57As President of the State History Interest Project (SHIP) during my time at the Academy, I had the privilege of learning from Bob Olcott ’44 and John McClintock ’57, who generously shared their time and knowledge with me. They introduced me to fascinating artifacts from the archives, including century-old class assignments from long-dead students predicting what life would look like in the far future -- which happened to be the year of my graduation, trophies from the bygone Red and Black athletic competitions, and an abundance of battalion mementos. Through their guidance, I came to appreciate that Academy history is American history—reminding me that much of the world we experience today can be traced back to the treasures preserved on the shelves of our archives.
