Why is the Annual Fund Campaign so important?
The Annual Fund Campaign solicits the first and most important financial gift we ask of every parent, grandparent, faculty and staff, alumni, and friend of The John Cooper School. Since dollars raised from this campaign go directly toward the daily operations and continuous improvements to The John Cooper School, it is the most beneficial gift that you can make to the School.
Why doesn’t the School just increase tuition to cover costs?
Contributions to the Annual Fund Campaign help us keep our tuition reasonable and competitive with other area independent schools. The donation is tax-deductible to the donor while no portion of the tuition is tax-deductible.
Why is parent participation in the Annual Fund Campaign so important?
Making a donation to the Annual Fund Campaign, at any level, reflects a vote of confidence in the school and signifies that families believe in the School’s mission. Donating to the campaign is the single best and most direct way to support Cooper.
How much should I give?
This is a personal decision that each family needs to make, but the more successful the Annual Fund Campaign is, the more the School can do to enhance and improve our student programs.
Why should I give to Annual Fund when I already support the Golf Tournament and Gala?
We appreciate your support of ALL of Cooper’s Advancement activities, which help sustain the school’s day-to-day operations. The Annual Fund Campaign is Cooper’s largest fundraiser. Without the Annual Fund Campaign, tuition charges would have to be considerably higher. 100% of your Annual Fund Campaign gift is tax-deductible.
What is the difference between the Annual Fund Campaign and the Capital Campaign?
The Annual Fund Campaign is, as its name specifies, an annual appeal for support of the operating budget. Unrestricted gifts to the Annual Fund Campaign provide critical funds for the operation of the school, including teacher salaries and benefits and facilities operations. Capital Campaigns are a one-time fundraising initiative to support a specific building project.
The Annual Fund Campaign and the Capital Campaign serve very different needs, but both are essential elements of the school’s past, present and future. Thus, we invite everyone in the Cooper community to participate in both of these initiatives.
May I designate my Annual Fund Campaign gift to a specific project, like athletics or fine arts?
Certainly, you may. However, the operating budget is dependent upon unrestricted gifts so that the Board and Administration may responsibly distribute the funds for the benefit of the whole school. We hope that the vast majority of gifts to the Annual Fund Campaign remain unrestricted. Last year only 1% of our gifts were restricted.
My child is in Upper School and will soon leave Cooper. Why should I still give to Annual Fund?
Annual Fund Campaign dollars are about the here and now, so no matter how long or short your stay at Cooper may be, if you are here NOW, your participation is needed and will benefit your child now. Plus, Upper School students FULLY utilize ALL that the school and its facilities have to offer!
Don’t forget: Cooper is unique, and your child is benefiting from the Cooper experience. Think of all we have: academics, athletics, fine arts, clubs, competitions, trips, community service opportunities, college counseling, and a faculty who will take the time to write very personal college recommendation letters in order to help your student stand out from the crowd.
The operating budget also supports our very involved JCS Alumni Association which your child will join when they graduate for Cooper.
How can I pay my Annual Fund contribution?
Cooper accepts cash, personal checks, Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express, and gifts of stock. You may pay your full donation amount initially or you may pledge to pay your donation anytime by June 30, 2021, Cooper’s fiscal year-end. Make your gift online at www.johncooper.org/giving.
I have children in several different grades. Do I need to make multiple donations?
No need to make separate donations. ONE gift per family counts towards participation for the grade level of EACH CHILD in the family.
