About

Come out to Pleasant Mountain in Bridgton, Maine to cheer on the Monks Alpine Ski Program on Saturday, January 25th! Read about Coach Margot Cosentino’s leadership in establishing a champion program in a very short period of time.

How Do I Watch the Monks and cheer them on?

Here is what Coach Cosentino writes: “As for finding the finish line: there is a brand new quad lift right above the parking lot (when you’re in the lot facing the mountain it’s to the far left). If you walk up the trail to the left of the lift, you will see the finish. There will be a lot of people standing there and a lot of people walking there. If you are walking I suggest you start walking about 9:30am, it’s not long but it’s steep so it could take a few minutes. Anyone skiing can also ski to the finish and watch.”

Margot Cosentino has been instrumental in establishing and advancing the alpine ski program at Saint Joseph’s College of Maine. Appointed as the inaugural head coach for both the men’s and women’s teams in 2018, she brought valuable experience from her previous role leading Saint Anselm College’s ski programs.

Under Cosentino’s leadership, the Monks have achieved significant milestones:

2020: In their debut varsity season, the women’s team secured five third-place finishes in the Reynolds Division and earned a spot in the USCSA Eastern Regional Championships at Sugarloaf Mountain. Four athletes received All-Reynolds Division honors, highlighting a strong start for the program.

2021: The women’s team clinched their first Reynolds Division Championship and shared the Ricker Cup, awarded to the top combined men’s and women’s program in the USCSA Reynolds Division. They dominated the season by winning all seven events, with standout performances from athletes like freshman Erica Irvin, who secured four individual victories.

2022: Both the men’s and women’s teams qualified for the USCSA National Championships at Whiteface Mountain in Lake Placid, New York. This achievement placed Saint Joseph’s among a select group of institutions with both squads earning national berths. The women’s team extended their winning streak to 15 consecutive events, underscoring their competitive edge.

2023: The Monks continued their upward trajectory, with both teams earning spots in the USCSA National Championships held at Mammoth Mountain in California. This marked the second consecutive year that both teams reached the national stage, reflecting the program’s sustained excellence.

Coach Cosentino’s dedication and strategic vision have been pivotal in the rapid development and success of Saint Joseph’s College’s alpine ski program, fostering a culture of excellence and achievement.
