Roncalli High School Walkathon
Walk Hard. Play Hard. Pray Hard.
What are the different ways for people to donate to my student?
Students can have friends and family donate online directly to them via their unique link with a credit card. During the week of September 21st, each student will receive an email with their unique link and details on how to solicit donations online, how to enter cash donations they’ve received and how to track overall donation totals.
Checks and cash are also accepted, or a combination of these payment methods. We ask students to fill in their yellow envelopes with the amount pledged online and turn it in to get their t-shirts.
When is Walkathon?
Friday, October 30th during the school day. No college visits are allowed on this date.
Why do we have Walkathon?
Every dollar raised through Walkathon funds needs-based tuition assistance for Roncalli families. This is THE ONLY all school fundraiser in which Roncalli students are asked to participate. Walkathon raises over $85,000 each school year. Our goal is to have 100% of our students participate in this important all school event!
What is Walkathon?
Walkathon is a 3-mile walk with RHS students, faculty, staff members and parent volunteers. This year, Walkathon is a virtual 3-mile walk where we are asking students to send in pictures of themselves on the walk.
How does Walkathon work?
Students need to secure $70 in donations prior to the Walkathon date. They will receive a manilla yellow envelope in their 8th period class and are asked to use this envelope to collect the donations. We ask that students collect donations from relatives, neighbors, friends, business owners and others in their local community. A family (2 or more children) living in the same household/at the same address will be able to turn in $120 total for the household rate. Only students who turn in $70 (or the $120 household rate) will participate in Walkathon and receive a Walkathon t-shirt. Students are asked to contact the Advancement Office if special financial circumstances need to be considered.
What if my student does not participate?
Traditionally, over 95% of our students enthusiastically participate to support our school! Those who choose not to participate will report to a study hall after the dismissal of the walkers and stay there until dismissal at 1:00 PM. No lunch will be served on the day of the Walkathon. Students in the study hall must bring lunch if they wish to eat prior to leaving Roncalli on this day.
What is the schedule for Walkathon day?
School will begin at the regular time. All eight periods will meet for approximately 20-minute intervals. Walkathon will begin at approximately 11:30 AM with a video message in their classroom. Students will be released from school to go home and do their virtual walks. Dismissal will be at 1:00 PM from the study halls for those not participating.
When and where does Walkathon money need to be turned in?
Students will turn in their money online or in the yellow envelope in the cafeteria during all lunch periods beginning Friday, October 23rd, and Monday, October 26th thru Thursday, October 29th. New this year, beginning Friday, October 23rd when a student’s goal is met, they will receive a wristband to be out of uniform everyday before the Walkathon. Any money turned in after lunch on October 29th must be turned in to Mrs. Endris in the Advancement Office. Money must be turned in by October 29th in order for the student to participate in the virtual walk.
What does my student wear for the Walkathon?
Students will receive a t-shirt to wear the day of the Walkathon when they turn in their money ($70/$120 Household Rate) on the dates listed in question #8. This shirt can be worn on future out of uniform dates.
What if my student collects more than $70?
Any student who individually turns in $100 or more will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win some great prizes! Prize winners will be drawn prior to the beginning of Walkathon. Students who collect $100 or more will also be given an additional out of uniform day. The date will be determined by the school’s administration.
